Savory (foreground) and sweet (background) cheese 'pies' with phyllo near lion fountain, Heraklion
Apaki (Cretan smoked pork) background, and a Cretan salad
Tomato 'fritters'
Cretan omelet - heavy on potatoes
Volkan gray in middle - from Santorini, 'lava filtered'. Mythos is basically Greek Budweiser. I don't remember the Voreia very well.
Fix Dark quite good dark beer, like Modelo Negro. The other one was 'organic' but was pretty average. Plus some kind of cocktail.
Classic Greek salad at the Souvlaki restaurant near Archeology Museum, Heraklion
Gyros - made with real meat, not weird pressed/spiced stuff as in USA.
Classic Cretan salad with rusks
Sea bass. Needed deboning. Dinner at the Veneto, about 100 yards from our hotel
eggplant and tomatoes
Smoked tuna with spaghetti
Hellas Greek Pilsner. not bad on a hot day in Matala
remnants of shrimp - - these aren't local
Sardines
Volkan grey (again) and Solo imperial ale. Solo is made in Heraklion
My only memory of our big wine tasting meal - -no pictures of food, but I remember have small pies with fava bean crust.
Meatballs from Diogenes Tavern, Athens
Orzo and lamb cooked in pot
seafood platter I shared with Cheryl on Aegina. Sardines, other small fish, squid, octopus, 'white fish', shrimp, fish cakes, and vegetable fritter. Don't forget the tzatziki
Volkan black - a black lager. OK, but grey is better. From God's Restaurant in Athens
Gyros, again
roasted lamb shank in a paper bag
Dolmades
Cindy had this - - I don't remember what it was. Some kind of 'pie'
Fix - better than Mythos, but pretty standard lager. The Miller of Greek beers. Drank this outside of the Temple of Hephaestus in Athens
Soft cheese wrapped in sunflower seeds on beet jam. Okay, but the cucumber gazpacho and the monkfish carpaccio (no pictures) were much better, I thought , from the Balcony restaurant in Athens
Our last Greek salad - in a bread bowl
Vegetarian risotto
Seafood risotto - flavored with mint
lamb with cashews and cheese, and a vegtable pancake with cheese. Weird flavors, and the pancake was very salty
